Dark Portal - 7 492 users, pictures

Dark Portal is a picture community, made for WoW-players, by WoW-players, to post their screenshots and real life pictures and interact through comments. As a registered user you can add information and pictures of yourself, as well as screenshots of your characters, so your gaming friends can look you up. You can add several of your WoW characters to your profiles, so others will be able to see your main character as well as your alts.

You'll also have available a number of features like commenting the pictures of others, search, and friends list. This is the community to post your bosskill screenshots, show off your epics or the vacation trip you took to the Plaguelands, or send a message to the guy that corpse camped you (for 5 times in a row)!

To see what kind of profiles people have made, you can browse other people's pictures.

• Communities

  The long awaited feature of freely user-generated communities has finally landed. Communities are freely created groups that you can join and use for having a chat etc.

  Later on we plan to add lots of cool stuff to communities like their own picture albums etc. Also keep in mind that your guild (if you have one) is already a strong base for a good community here! If you happen to find any bugs (never happened.. right?) tease anqqa about them.

• New version of the AddOn is out!

  Anqqa has created and released the new version of the Dark Portal AddOn. It promises many upgrades, read the details from here.

• Friends list

  Many Dark Portal community members have request a friends list. And here it comes! You can find the friends list from the tab-navigation next to your "profile" link. The friends list has a few nice features such as: possibility to create multiple lists, option to track what's new with your friends (like new pictures and new journal entries etc). So, fill it up with your guildmates etc and followup on what they are adding/writing to the community. Once you have a list full of friends and the followup feature enabled the front page will pile up everything new for you each time you log in. You can only add players (not characters) to the friends list.

  We are currently working on user-generated communities and community groups. So expect that to arrive sometime in the near future. All feedback is welcomed again!

• Adding pictures from a webcam

  Now the "add new picture" page has a flash-enabled webcam feed in the bottom right corner of the page. It requires a flash player and a webcam to function, and allows you to add pictures taken directly through your webcam. This feature makes it even easier to add pictures of yourself into our online community. Go try it out!

• Character statistics revealed

  Who's got the most Attack Power? Most PvP Kills? The highest +Spell DMG? Now you can find out! Darkportal.net continues to serve its members with interesting stuff like the character top lists found here. The stats are based on our Dark Portal AddOn and allow members to search the top listings for just about any attribute, score, etc amongst the AddOn-enabled characters listed in our community. We hope that you will find the TOP lists interesting and inspiring - hopefully creating some friendly competition in the community. And go download the AddOn if you haven't already!

• Darkportal.net Crew at The Burning Crusade publishing events!

  Members of our darkportal.net crew are present at some of the TBC publishing events around Helsinki! You can see us on the night of the TBC release on monday 15.1 at Tilt-shop and Level 7, meeting WoW-players and taking pictures of people attending these events! Like all you players out there, we're also eagerly anticipating the release of The Burning Crusade, anxiously waiting to get our paws on our own copies of it. Before we go home to hop on our mounts and head for the Outlands, we will be taking pictures at these events and we're hoping all of you will do the same at whichever events you attend - add them to darkportal.net!

  If you are attending a Burning Crusade release event, we encourage you to take pictures and add them to your profile on darkportal.net! The best TBC release event pictures will win a prize. So have fun at the release party you attend to, take some pictures of yourself and your friends! Further details and rules on the competition will be posted during the next few days.

• Dark Portal character information plugin released!

  Now all community members can add detailed character information to their character profile pages. You can navigate through this information using the new tabs on top of character pictures. See this profile for an example.

  Using the plugin is simple: download it from here, enable it, it automatically logs your info in the game, then follow instructions on how to add information to your profile. Now showing off all those epics is even easier! The plugin is in beta-stage and all feedback about it can be sent to welovemurlocs@darkportal.net. Have fun!

• Blogs/Journals and full size images introduced

  All Dark Portal members can now write Blogs/Journals. You can find the "Journal" tab from the top of your profile pages. Pictures can be added to journal entries and each entry can be commented separately. You can check the latest entries from here.

  Also all new images you add to the community will store the original full size image as well. There are two "buttons" in the top right corner of each image for full size image viewing. Now you can finally post those boss-kill shots and not worry about image resolution getting too crappy!

• The Burning Crusade races and beta-servers are included!

  You can now add characters from the Blood Elf and Draenei races, and list them under the closed beta servers. Try searching those races! There are already a few around..

• New Search and New Browse are online!

  New Search function has arrived! The new search allows community members to cross-search characters and users (people). This way you can for example search only for male players, in your realm, that have a female character. Or only female players, from your realm, that have characters under the level 40. Any search criteria can be combined and you can select to display search results either as people or as characters. This search functionality is something you can find only in this community, also the extended search functionality is available only for registered community members.

  New Browse view is also introduced: now the browse function displays faction-flags (Alliance/Horde) in the browsing thumbnail.

  Next up we will introduce features for member-created communities and support for guilds in the Dark Portal - so stay tuned and keep inviting your friends to register!

• Referrer competition results!

  The referrer competition closed just a few minutes ago at 10:00 EET as announced earlier. Looks like the last weekend was truly a mad dash of reference farming. Here are the final results:

  The Dark Portal is already an international WoW community, yet still many of our members often write comments in other languages besides English. Will you please use English only? The aim is to make everyone feel right at home here. Thank you for understanding.

• Darkportal.net Public Beta Launched!

  darkportal.net public beta has been launched on August 3rd, 2006 at the Assembly computer festival and demo party! darkportal.net is open to all WoW-players who play on either US or EU realms. Using the community is free of charge; you only need to register an account. Please keep in mind that we have only just launched, so some features are still being crafted by our tech wizards. Some of the main features like search, friends list and complete character profiles are still in the works, and will be added shortly. In the meantime, enjoy the pictures people add, comment others you meet at darkportal.net and of course, enjoy playing WoW. Do remember to take screenshots!
